Q. Are City employees included in the selection panel?
A. No. The winner is selected by a panel composed of representatives of private business, philanthropists, non-profits and religious institutions as well as community members. The selection panel represents a diversity of community perspectives. They use the nomination forms, profiles of the nominees, descriptions of the contributions made, and their own evaluation to select a winner. City employees do not select the award winner.
Q. How many awards will be given each year?
A. Beginning in 2014, we will issue three awards annually to the most outstanding public employees whose work performance embodies distinguished public service ($5,000 cash prize), innovation in government ($1,000 cash prize), and excellence in customer service ($1,000 cash prize). In honoring these individuals Philadelphia acknowledges the thousands of talented, dedicated and innovative public employees that make this city a great place to work, live, and visit.
Q. Can I re-submit a nomination from a prior year?
Q. Is this a Lifetime Achievement award or does it honor any excellence in public service?
A. The award recognizes any excellence in public service.
Q. Is there an alternative method to applying online?
A. We strongly encourage using the online nomination form on our webpage, but if you are not able to complete the nomination form online you can pick up a paper nomination form in the Fund for Philadelphia Office, Room 708 of City Hall.
Q. What is the nomination deadline?
A. The nomination period opens on Wednesday, September 15, 2015 and closes on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11: 59 PM EST. In order to be considered, all nominations must be completed and submitted by January 29, 2016 prior to midnight.
Q. If I start a nomination, can I save my work and continue later?
A. No. Once you begin completing the nomination form you must answer every required question in order to successfully submit your nomination. We recommend that you view the whole nomination form here to review the questions and prepare the answers prior to completing the nomination form.
